How does an ozone generator work?

We all know that there is an ozone layer in the stratosphere, at an altitude of 25 to 35 km above the ground. The ozone layer acts as a natural shield against harmful ultraviolet radiation from space. When the high-frequency part of UV hits the oxygen molecule O₂, it absorbs the energy and breaks down into free radicals. This process is called photolysis. But the process does not end there, because the freed oxygen atoms soon combine with the surrounding O₂ molecules and form O₃ molecules – ozone. It gradually breaks down into an O₂ molecule and a free atom, which again reacts with the environment.
Thanks to this invisible process, life can exist a few tens of kilometers below, without having to hide somewhere in the depths of the oceans

Ozone is as one of the strongest oxidizing agents we know, it not only destroys bacteria and viruses, but can also destroy odors and molds. Ozone is also used to treat drinking water, and we also know the typical smell of ozone in swimming pools. This process is called ozonation. However, our purifier is only suitable for air purification.

The device works on the principle of active oxygen (O3/ozone), which is transformed back into oxygen (O2) after the end of the application. Ozone as an oxidizing agent has very strong disinfecting effects and in the form of gas it can be used in closed spaces.

How to clean a car from odors and allergens?

Air conditioning the car system is not only a source of unpleasant odors, but above all a potential health risk caused by the bacteria and fungi it contains. The idea that you only need to have your car's air conditioning disinfected at a service center once every six months is wrong. You will almost needlessly throw away around 400-800 CZK for this one-time service. Even if the disinfection was done really perfectly, the beginning of the growth of new bacteria and mold, figuratively speaking, begins immediately after you leave the service. In order to keep your air conditioning system clean, you need to regularly disinfect it with ozone, preferably once a week.

As part of our experiments, we also measured the ozone consumption when cleaning the air conditioning in several cars. We placed the ozone generator at the intake of the air conditioner and measured the concentration of ozone coming from the distribution air ducts inside the car. For the first 30 minutes, almost all of the ozone was consumed inside the air conditioning system. If the system were clean, without bacteria and organic contamination, then ozone would come out of the air conditioning system into the car.

We recommend starting with a shorter time of applying ozone directly to the air conditioning intake - for example, only 15 minutes. The air conditioning must be on. After this time, you will find out if the ozone has been used up inside the air conditioner or if it has gotten inside the car. Repeat this process several times and find a suitable total application time for your conditions. By regularly cleaning the air conditioner, you will be able to subsequently reduce the necessary time for air conditioning maintenance.
